Mercedes-Benz C63 - Diagnosed, Repaired, and Tuned to Perfection
Continuing with the theme of fixing things before tuning, we had a Mercedes-Benz C63 in the workshop this week that reminded us how vital proper diagnostics are before calibration. The C63 runs the M156 6.2-litre V8; one of AMG’s greatest engines. Raw, naturally aspirated, and overflowing with character, it still depends on precision sensors to deliver its best performance.

Diagnosis First, Power Second
During our pre-tuning checks, we picked up a fault in the manifold pressure sensor. It wasn’t triggering a warning light, but it was interfering with the car’s load calculations, meaning throttle and timing weren’t quite matching the driver’s input. Fortunately, we were able to sort it immediately. We happened to be collecting another customer’s vehicle from Mercedes-Benz, so we grabbed the replacement sensor on the spot and fitted it without delay.
Calibrated for Precision and Performance
With the fault resolved, we moved on to the fun part; tuning. The M156 already delivers an incredible soundtrack and a thrilling top end, but it benefits hugely from refinement in throttle calibration, ignition timing, and torque control.
After tuning, throttle response was instant, midrange torque felt muscular, and the power delivery became smoother yet more ferocious at the same time. The car now feels cohesive, fast without being frantic, powerful without losing composure.

Results That Speak for Themselves
Our customer noticed the difference straight away. The car felt sharper, more responsive, and more predictable under load. It’s always rewarding to see how even a small technical fix, combined with precise calibration can restore an AMG to its full potential.
