We’ve had a string of exciting projects in the workshop lately, and one that certainly made an entrance was this 2016 Chrysler 300 SRT8, a car that’s equal parts muscle and menace.
The HEMI, Refined
Powered by the mighty 6.4-litre HEMI V8, the SRT8 doesn’t whisper about performance, it announces it through the nearest wall. From the factory it’s already impressive, but our calibration refined throttle mapping, torque management, and shift logic to make that power truly usable or at least as usable as 500 horsepower can be.
Now, about the traction control… “Lax” would be generous. Chrysler clearly decided to give drivers complete freedom, the kind of freedom that lets you light the tyres up from Auckland to Hamilton if you’re so inclined. We like to think of it as a design feature; a built-in reminder that personal responsibility is part of the driving experience.

Once tuned, the transformation was undeniable. The HEMI responds with instant torque, the gearbox feels alert and decisive, and the car finally delivers the kind of controlled aggression its looks have always promised.
It’s still every bit the thunderous muscle sedan you expect, just sharper, smoother, and far more eager to show off its power.
